Report: Chargers S Kiel arrested
By Associated Press
UPDATED 1 HOUR 52 MINUTES AGO
SAN DIEGO - Chargers strong safety Terrence Kiel was arrested Tuesday for investigation of drug-related offenses, ESPN.com reported.
Kiel was booked and released after posting $150,000 bond, the Web site reported Tuesday night, citing sources it did not name. He was arrested for investigation of possession, possession for sale and transportation of a controlled substance, ESPN.com said.
In a statement, team spokesman Bill Johnston said: ``We're aware of an off-the-field situation involving Terrence Kiel and we're monitoring the situation. Due to the personal nature of the ongoing legal investigation, the Chargers are withholding further comment until the matter is resolved legally.''
Chargers general manager A.J. Smith and coach Marty Schottenheimer did not immediately return phone calls from The Associated Press on Tuesday night. DEA spokesman Dan Simmons didn't return a call placed to his cell phone.
It was the fourth run-in with the law by a Chargers player since April.
Outside linebacker Steve Foley was shot outside his suburban home by an off-duty Coronado police officer on Sept. 3. Foley will miss the entire season and forfeit at least $775,000 in pay.
Foley and linebacker Shaun Phillips were each arrested for scuffling with San Diego police officers a week apart in April. Neither was charged.

I would assume since it is a legal matter no action will be taken by the league unless he is convicted.

A weak secondary just got weaker.Of course the Charger clowns say "he is just plug in player" and "we will be fine" . I know he is a starter, and I know that that is not good any way you look at it,but their fans seem to be quite out of the realm of reality when discussing their team from what I have read on their boards.

Instead of starting a new thread....
What are the keys to beating the Chargers? Will we have much success with running the ball or will we see alot of passing down field to beat their weak secondary?
I really don't see them having a great deal of joy against our D but you never know, they are a solid enough unit from what i've been reading and some of the highlights i've seen!

Ok, I was going to start a keys thread, but I'll go in here...
On Defense,
#1 - we need to focus on shutting down LT, both as a runner and as a receiver.
Rivers is doing pretty good, but he's definitley a weaker QB being helped by a dynamic RB. If we can shut down LT, it will force SD to throw more often and our pass defense has been good with the "bend, but don't break" style of play, leading to a couple key INTs. Basically, if we can take LT out of the game, they're going to have McCardell and Gates to throw to, leading to point #2
#2 - blanket Antonio Gates.
Gates is the 2nd best offensive weapon. He's becoming as lethal a TE as Heap is. I wouldn't focus all our energy on him, but definitley stop him from making any big plays.
On offense,
#1 - STONEWALL Shawne Merriman.
Ugh, I hate to think about him going up against Pashos. If so, you could just hand Merriman 3-4 sacks right now. We need to get some help on stopping him, though at least we have a QB who knows how to get rid of the ball quickly and effectivley.
#2 - Tighten up our sloppiness.
The Chargers are statistically the #2 defense in the AFC. They've allowed a 173.5 YPG avg. Now, they came against the Raiders and Titans, both teams in freefall, but still, we can't afford to play like we did against the Raiders and Browns (?, I didn't see the game, but being that far out until the end made it sound like we played sloppy).
#3 - Tire them down.
I think our biggest break will come if we pound the ball at their run defense and work in a lot of passes to Heap, Wilcox, Musa Smith. Make them work at stopping us and at somepoint, they will tire.

San Diego has experienced a lot of "legal situations" with their players in the past year or so, which dispels the myth that every thug in the NFL plays in Baltimore...
The Chargers have an explosive offense when LT is able to establish a decent rhythm... Phillips is as good as any young guy out there as far as touch, accuracy and arm strength go...a real stud by most standards...His real problem is the fact that he tends to get nicked up a lot and he's not all that quick of foot... Should be interesting if that Purple Pain Defense can get to him early in the game...
ADDED: Antonio Gates is as good as Todd Heap in every area except Heap's inate ability to bring down the jump ball and 86's knack for getting extra yards once he has the rock. Probably a better blocker though...

Kiel has posted bail and will likely play on Sunday.

Mr. Wag has nailed it perfectly, right down to the foundation and the root cellar. Nothinh to add to that, except maybe that our front Five better be playing in general, and blocking in particular, as if their livelihoods are depending on it.

well, also, we need to get pressure on Rivers. I made him out to be a worse QB than he is...he's only going to be mistake-prone if we can get him on the run.
This may mean that Suggs' replacement needs to step up, BIG TIME. Hopefully we'll have Suggs back.

Is Cody fully fit to go if we don't have Suggs?

According to coaches, yes...he's been inactive for 2 or 3 games this season, but coaches claimed this was more to do with needing the Secondary depth.
I think we'll see some JJ, AD, and Cody to replace Suggs.

Suggs sounds fine. He said it felt great and was seen laughing and hopping around on the leg.
